Barbudans will be relocated from the temporary shelters soon, the government has announced.<\/p>

Health and Environment Minister Molwyn Joseph said this will be done within two to three weeks.<\/p>\n

At present, three locations are being used to house residents of the sister island \u2013 the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds, the National Technical Training and Vocational Centre (NTTC) on Nugent Avenue and the Multi-Purpose Cultural and Exhibition Centre at Perry Bay.<\/p>

These temporary locations do not afford the Barbudan residents much privacy and Joseph said, \u201cyou can\u2019t keep people who are accustomed to being on their own with their privacy, their freedom in (a) shelter for too long\u201d.<\/p>

In order to make the Barbudans more comfortable and feel more at home, the government undertook the refurbishment of the former nurses quarters on Queen Elizabeth Highway.<\/p>\n

Joseph said the location is being transformed into a residential area, and it will be ready for occupancy in a few days.<\/p>

\u201cAnd I am pleased to say that within the next three or four days the hostel should be ready. Now the hostel has about 60 rooms up there with large dining facilities, facilities where you can have (a) washer and dryer, the kitchen has all the amenities,\u201d Joseph announced.<\/p>\n

Work commenced on the building last Thursday by Roberts Construction who put together a workforce on short notice at\u001b the request of the government.<\/p>
