A Bendals man was fined $45,000 on drug charges in the St. John\u2019s Magistrate\u2019s Court on Monday.<\/p>\n

James Dean, 57yrs old of Bendals appeared before Chief Magistrate Walsh charged with Cultivation of 760 Cannabis plants, Possession of 2 \u00bd pounds of cured Cannabis, Possession with intent to Sell, and Being Concerned with the Supply of a Controlled Drug to wit Cannabis.<\/p>

He was convicted and fined $30,000 of the charge of Cultivation and $15,000 for Possession. He was reprimanded on the other two charges.<\/p>\n

He was ordered to pay $5,000 forthwith, while the remaining sum is to be paid in instalments of $5,000 each at the end of May and June respectively and $10,000 each at the end of July, August and September of 2017. In default he would serve two years at Her Majesty\u2019s Prison.<\/p>

The Court heard that officers attached to the K-9 Unit conducted a drug operation in Bendals last Wednesday, and found Dean on a Cannabis Cultivation with 760 plants growing. Another 2 \u00bd pounds of the cured substance was also discovered on the farm and was seized.<\/p>

He was arrested and taken into custody and the plants were uprooted and taken to the police station<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
