Blood collection facilities in Antigua and Barbuda received a major \u2018top up\u2019 as the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was outstretched once again.<\/p>

A short but important ceremony was held today at the church to hand over equipment worth US$17,137.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful that we can serve the people of Antigua and Barbuda by providing these important pieces of equipment to serve the needs of the people. We pray that the Lord will continue to open doors for us to serve in the future,\u201d Carlos Defreitas, Branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints said.<\/p>

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rhonda Sealey-Thomas, who spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Health, paid gratitude to the church for the generous donation and noted that it fits well into the ministry\u2019s plans to improve blood donation in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cWe all know that blood is vital and from time to time we have our challenges at the MSJMC Blood bank with providing sufficient blood to the population. The Ministry sought to improve that by procuring a mobile blood donation unit that was commissioned just recently\u2019.<\/p>\n

President of the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross \u00a0and Project Manager of Club Lyfe Michael Joseph expressed delight with the move by LDS and called on other individuals\/ organizations to become a part of the Club Lyfe family and work towards the future development of blood donation in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cPart of Club Lyfe\u2019s goal is to ensure that there is no corner in Antigua and Barbuda that is inaccessible for blood donation; if there is one person anywhere that wants to donate blood, we should be accessible to them and this is what these blood beds and blood monitors will do,\u201d Joseph remarked.<\/p>\n

He further reminded the nation that blood donation is a collective responsibility.<\/p>

\u201cBlood donation in Antigua and Barbuda, if we want it to be where it should be, it has to be a collective responsibility; the government has recognized that from discussions with the Chief Medical Officer and the Minister of Health. Civil society has also recognized that and we are seeing more and more faith based organizations like the LDS church as well as the private entities coming on board to ensure the success of this programme.\u201d<\/p>
