Eric Emmanuel Joseph Jr<\/span>\u00a0told his family he would emerge this year\u2019s C<\/span>aribbean Secondary Education Certificate<\/span>\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0(CSEC)\u00a0<\/span>top student, months before the results were released<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

On Friday, the education ministry announced that the Baptist Academy student had secured 15 subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Antigua News Room spoke to Eriecia Joseph, Eric\u2019s sister, who said her brother was shocked when he heard the news, although he had predicted it.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cHis mouth [was] open, he was not saying anything, he could not believe, he was just in dismay. He asked if I was serious and I told him yes. He is proud though, he is proud of himself,\u201d Eriecia said of her brother whom she spoke to via video chat.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Eric is in Florida pursuing his love for basketball. He aspires to become the first Antiguan to be drafted to the NBA. He has represented the country at the national level travelling to many islands to play basketball.<\/span><\/p>\n

His father, whose name he shares, said Eric was not one of those students who was up studying at\u00a0midnight<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Joseph Sr said he would push his son to take his studies more seriously, but the young man would tell him that was not necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proud father described his 16-year-old son, who turns 17 next week, as a student who retains information well and learns more in class.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe chief thing about him is he is very competitive, very competitive, he does not want to be number two in anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Joseph Sr said he did not think his son would have been named the CSEC top student because he was more focused on basketball, which he played full-time.<\/span><\/p>\n
