On World Day against Trafficking in Persons today, officials here are calling on the public to report suspicious cases to the authorities.<\/p>

\u201cWe call upon businesses, national and community organizations, families, and all Antiguans and Barbudans to support the national effort, report suspicious activities and spread the word,\u201d the Ministry of Legal Affairs said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all have a vital role to play in eliminating human trafficking (modern day slavery) in Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

The government and its related agencies says it \u201cwill forge ahead as we endeavor to raise awareness and educate the public about this heinous crime.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In September, the annual Trafficking in Persons Awareness Week will be held.<\/p>\n

The week activities is planned to highlight this crime and encourage the population to play their part in eliminating this global threat.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The International Labour Organization estimates that 21 million people are victims of forced labour globally, many of whom are thought to be victims of human trafficking forced into labour and sexual exploitation.<\/p>\n

World Day against Trafficking in Persons serves to raise awareness of the crime of human trafficking and the need to identify and protect victims.<\/p>
