Business executives could soon face jail time if they are found tampering with their books Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced.<\/p>\n

Browne made the statements while wrapping up debate on the Investment Authority Bill in the Parliament on Friday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He says his government will return to the Parliament before the end of the year to table Tax Administration and Procedure Act.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

This new law will make it a criminal offence for persons to tamper with their books, Browne says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will make sure that it will be a criminal offence to violate the tax code\u2026they must know that after we pass this they going to jail, they will serve time.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Browne says the framework must be strengthened to prevent persons from evading taxes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we do not strength the framework to ensure that individuals serve time for manipulating taxes, for evading taxes then we will always have a problem with government finances,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The prime minister told colleagues that prevention measures are critical for the state because while the economy is growing, the government still may not be able to meet their obligations.<\/p>

The announcement of this legislation comes on the heels of recent comments by Browne about hoteliers he believes are manipulating their books.<\/p>\n
