Governor General Sir Rodney Williams by proclamation has annulled eight knighthoods conferred in November 2014.<\/p>

Sir Rodney after acting on the recommendation of Prime Minister Gaston Browne revoked the honours conferred on Anthony Bailey and seven others on July 21st.<\/p>

A review of the appointment of the honours to Bailey went under review after controversies ensued surrounding the appointment.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

During the review, some irregularities came to light with the process. In addition, the conclusion was made that the conferral of the honours was in breach of the National Honors Act 1988, the act did not provide for the conferral of institutional honours or the exchange of honours.<\/p>\n

Sir Rodney says the holders of the honours were notified and asked to return the insignia and certificate to the Antigua & Barbuda High Commission in London.<\/p>

\u201cI hereby notify you that your appointment to the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation has been annulled with immediate effect in accordance with the National Honours Act 1998. As required under the law, I would ask you to return your insignia and certificate of membership to the High Commission of Antigua and Barbuda in London,\u201d the head of state said.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the awarding of honours were discussed before his government coming into office 2014.<\/p>\n

He says his cabinet honoured the arrangement without any prior knowledge of the discussion.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The eight individuals on whom such honours were bestowed and have now been revoked are Charles of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Renato Raffaele Martino, Camilla of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Anthony John James Bailey, Cyril Woods, William Parkyn Home Jeffcock, Nadhmi Shakir Auchi and Spas Roussev.<\/p>\n
