Residents living in St. John\u2019s Rural West Constituency will participate in a tsunami drill this weekend.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) is organizing the exercise and people will be asked to move with urgency to safe areas identified by the agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to be able to look at the challenges that people face during this exercise and to make recommendations where necessary and to take steps as necessary to ensure that people understand the importance of getting from an area of danger to an area of safety\u201d, NODS Director Philmore Mullin explained at a press briefing on Thursday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Alerts will be issued around 1:30pm to kick off the exercise on Saturday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThe arrival time of the first wave between when you get the signal and when the first wave arrives is approximately five minutes. So, basically what we\u2019re saying is you have five minutes to get to a place of safety\u201d, Mullin cautioned.<\/p>\n

NODS will use the data gathered from the exercise to determined what needs to be done to ensure every resident in the area are able to get to safety in the event of an actual tsunami.<\/p>
