Police Wednesday seized cocaine worth more than J$1.5 billion (One Jamaica dollar=US$0.08 cents) in Morant Point in St Thomas on the easternmost point of mainland Jamaica.<\/p>

Police said that 1, 200kgs of cocaine had been seized during the operation but have so far not given any further details.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials say they have seized an estimated 1,300 pounds of compressed marijuana during an anti-narcotics operation along the Water Wheel main road, Cave district in Westmoreland, south of here on Tuesday.<\/p>

The police said that a freightliner truck, which was suspected to have been carrying the illicit drug, was signalled to stop, but the driver disobeyed, sped off and was pursued.<\/p>

He was stopped at a roadblock and the police said the occupants engaged them in an exchange of gunfire.<\/p>\n

The driver reportedly used the truck to attempt to mow down the cops. But the lawmen said that the truck subsequently crashed into another vehicle driven by a police officer.<\/p>

The police said that the identity of the driver and the three occupants of the truck were being withheld as they continue their investigations.<\/p>\n
