Calypsonian and popular media personality Ava Charles Mckenzie, known as Sassy, is presently in a fight for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Mount St. John Medical Center (MSJMC).<\/p>

Her family is desperately seeking the public\u2019s assistance to airlift their mother to the St. Claire Medical Center in Trinidad and Tobago to find treatment for the numerous failing organs afflicting Sassy.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven a dollar counts,\u201d implored her son, Orville Charles, today via Facebook.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

\u00a0\u201cI am humbly begging for your assistance to save my mother’s life.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mzkenzie is presently in stable condition but had to be placed in a medically-induced coma as the pain was too great for her to bear.<\/p>\n

Doctors are presently trying to identify exactly what is causing the calypsonian\u2019s organs to be shutting down.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The family is seeking EC 140,000 to begin emergency care. Hospital costs total EC 74,000 (or USD 27,000) for a 14-day observation and +\/- laparotomy. The air ambulance costs $65,000.<\/p>\n

A common reason for a laparotomy is to investigate abdominal pain, but may be required for a broad range of indications. The abdominal organs include the digestive tract (such as the stomach, liver and intestines) and the organs of excretion (such as the kidneys and bladder).<\/p>

The news of Mckenzie\u2019s hospitalization over the weekend caught many off-guard as many last witnessed her hosting the Calypso Monarch quarterfinals last Friday and, by all accounts, she looked to be in great health and in her usual high spirits. Sassy did complain of abdominal pain, but she attributed it to probable food poisoning of some sort.<\/p>
