Two officials from the Ministry of the Environment and the Electricity Manager of the APUA were invited to Cabinet to address the slow pace at which plans to construct several energy-producing windmills have not yet been operationalized.<\/p>

The financial resources to construct the windmills have been provided by the Green Energy Fund\u2014a United Nations Funding Agency\u2014and would be a grant to Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n

However, the period in which the renewable energy plants ought to have been funded and completed has passed; a second period is being utilized to complete the funding.<\/p>

In an effort to ensure greater collaboration between the Ministry of the Environment and the APUA, the Cabinet has stepped-in.<\/p>

The parties are to report to Cabinet after the Carnival in order to ensure that the inter-departmental coordination being pursued is achieved.<\/p>\n

The Airport Authority must also give its approval of the placement of the windmills, since the tall plants can only be constructed away from any flight path\u2014landing or take-off.<\/p>
