Antigua and Barbuda has again signaled its unwavering support for Venezuela, the host of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which concluded in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital on Sunday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

During his presentation to the meeting, Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade Minister, Hon. E.P Chet Greene told delegates his country wants NAM to continue playing an essential role in the strengthening of international peace and security, with a quest for establishing a more prosperous and peaceful world.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur presence here today is testimony to our determination to engage and build alliances that will support our fight against injustice and exploitation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In upholding this perspective, our leaders, through the framework of CARICOM, and with the support of the Governments of Mexico and Uruguay, continue to advocate for the adoption of the Montevideo Mechanism of dialogue in addressing the prevailing issue in our neighboring country of Venezuela,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He said Antigua and Barbuda continues to stand in solidarity with the government and people of Venezuela and pledges it support for finding an effective solution to the ongoing situation. As a region, he noted that the livelihoods of its people are dependent on the maintenance of peace, as it enables and fosters the development of the region\u2019s micro-economies, security, social and economic justice and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

\u201cA peaceful environment is critical as it affects all facets of Caribbean economic development. In this context, we hereby declare our support for and solidarity with the governments and peoples of Cuba and Nicaragua. A war-torn region, a region plagued by continuous instability would only increase the scale of vulnerability being faced by our regional economies,\u201d the foreign minister declared.<\/p>

Greene raised the issue of de-risking and the move by the European nations to brand countries of the Caribbean as harmful tax havens. These moves, he noted, pose a threat to the economic viability of the region as there is a risk of excluding the Caribbean from the global trading and financial systems. \u201cThis has the potential to force the region into economic crisis,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

The minister wants NAM to be more proactive in advocating for inclusion of small states in the global financial and economic systems.<\/p>

The Antigua and Barbuda delegation also includes Senior Consular Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lance Browne and Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Cuba, George Goodwin Jnr.<\/p>
