Prime Gaston Browne says Antigua & Barbuda economy grew by 6.5 per cent in 2016, the highest in the western hemisphere.<\/p>

Browne told parliament that the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank recently reviewed its growth figures for the country which was previously 4.3 per cent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is remarkable\u201d Browne who is also finance minister told the Lower House.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

According to him, the high growth rate is due to \u201craw competence and performance by this administration.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Making reference to the period of growth under the former government, the Prime Minister said \u201cwe had no Cricket World Cup\u201d to fuel growth.<\/p>\n

Browne who admits that he was surprised when the central bank announced earlier that that rate of growth was only 4.3 per cent.<\/p>

\u201cBecause last year we had a record year in tourism performance\u2026we had an increase in consumption so it must have been more than 4.3 per cent.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the 2017 budget, Prime Minister Browne said the Antigua and Barbuda economy has shown such spectacular growth in 2016 due to strategic and sustainable policies that have created a stable economic climate of very low inflation and robust growth and development.<\/p>
