Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Antigua & Barbuda Airport Authority Stanley Smith has told the tourism minister that he is qualified and competent to manage the nation\u2019s largest airport.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Last week, Asot Michael called for Smith to be fired forthwith after a fumigation exercise gone bad resulted in the closure of the airport for several hours.<\/p>\n

But Smith told a local radio station \u201cI spent 14 years as a senior director of operations, I spent one-year doing a master\u2019s degree in airport planning and management at Loughborough University.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Subsequent to that I spent three years at the university of the west indies where I obtain a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Michael told Antigua News Room that the Jamaican national cannot handle the airport CEO position and blamed him for causing the airlines millions in losses.<\/p>\n

The minister said Smith showed poor judgment to fumigate the old terminal at the time that he did.<\/p>

The airport CEO says while he wasn\u2019t the person who made the call for the fumigations of the old airport terminal that lead to the closure of the airport for three hours, he took actions to protect his employees and visitors alike.<\/p>\n

The fumes entered Air Traffic Control tower causing the closure until the facility was once again safe for use.<\/p>
