The Citizenship by Investment Unit today sought to clarify what it called misinformation being put out by the Observer Media Group.<\/p>

The Daily Observer reported last Saturday that \u201ca number of discrepancies have been found between a six-monthly report of the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).\u201d<\/p>\n

The opposition-friendly newspaper made reference to alleged variances in the number of CIP passports issued and the number of application received by nationality after it compared two reports in June and December 2015.<\/p>

In a statement, the unit said \u201cIn light of this recent misinformation, the Unit wishes to place on record the facts surrounding the issue.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The unit pointed out that as there is no restriction placed on the number of persons who can apply for citizenship under a single application, an application can, therefore, comprise a single individual or a family of two or more.\u201d<\/p>\n

The inconsistencies are said to be contained in the 2015 six-monthly reports, as it pertains to the number of passports issued by nationality (2013 to June 2015) and the total number of applications received by nationality (2013 to December 2015.)<\/p>

From 2013 to 17 December 2015, the Unit received a total of 27 Iranian citizenship applications. Twenty-three (23) were granted approval, resulting in a total of thirty-three (33) persons being granted citizenship, and subsequent issuance of passports within the period of 2013 to June 2015.<\/p>\n

From 2013 to 17 December 2015, four (4) Iraqi citizenship applications were received, resulting in six (6) persons being granted citizenship and a subsequent issuance of passports to 6 persons within the period of 2013 to June 2015.<\/p>\n

Similarly, during the period of 2013 to December 2015, the Unit received a total of eight (8) Egyptian citizenship applications, each of which contained more than four (4) persons, resulting in twenty-one (21) persons being granted citizenship and a subsequent issuance of passports to those 21 persons.<\/p>\n

From 2013 to December 2015, the Unit received a total of thirty-five (35) Lebanese citizenship applications, resulting in fifty-eight (58) persons being granted citizenship and a subsequent issuance of passports to these 58 persons.<\/p>\n

During the period of inception to December 2015, the Unit received three (3) applications for citizenship from Istanbul (Turkey), one of which was granted approval and resulting in two (2) passports being issued.<\/p>\n
