A court in Belize has ordered soca artiste Destra Garcia to pay just over US$8,000 after the court found that she personally injured a man \u2013 Fernando Oliva, while gyrating on him at\u00a0a concert\u00a0September 2015.<\/p>

Destra Garcia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Oliva filed a civil claim against Destra, claiming that she jumped on him, and ruptured his bladder as she performed at \u201cThe Carnival Overload\u201d concert.<\/p>\n

Oliva claimed he was called on stage to dance with Destra, following the dance, a video showed him lying ground.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The court was told that Destra then said,\u00a0\u201cIf you\u2019s bad boy, I will treat you bad! Treat him bad?\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The crowd is said to have responded in the affirmative.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, Destra jumped on top of him in a move closer to wrestling than soca.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The court says Oliva was rushed to the hospital for emergency medical care right after leaving the stage.<\/p>\n

After recovering, he sued the Destra\u00a0for personal injury, and during a court appearance last week, the judge ruled that Destra should pay Oliva.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Lawyers successfully argued that Destra was negligent\u00a0in her actions, leading to injury to the man.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The court granted a\u00a0default judgment against Destra as she did not enter a defence and lawyers say they are now in talks with attorneys in Trinidad and Tobago to enforce the judgment in that jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

Destra has the right to appeal the judgment in Belize.<\/p>\n

The attorneys say they\u00a0have sought the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago to serve her with the documents.<\/p>\n

Destra, who departed Belize for Miami on Tuesday has promised to issue a statement through her attorney.<\/p>\n
