Medical officials are reporting an increase in the cases of conjunctivitis or Red Eye here.<\/p>

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. James Knight says while the majority of cases have been reported in the Clare Hall health district,\u00a0yesterday alone, 60 cases were reported in the All Saints Area.<\/p>\n

Dr. Knight says proper hygiene is key in preventing the spread.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He says “persons who are wearing contact lenses should be especially careful and also those who are wearing false eyelashes.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

“These two groups should also be aware that viral conjunctivitis can be further complicated by a bacterial process.<\/p>\n

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the outermost layer of the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelid.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Itching of the eye is more common in cases due to allergies.\u00a0Conjunctivitis\u00a0can affect one or both eyes. The most common infectious causes are viral followed by bacterial.<\/p>\n

Just last week, The Ministry of Health and Environment in Dominica notified the public of an outbreak of Viral Conjunctivitis called -Red Eye in the Health Districts of Marigot, Portsmouth and Roseau.<\/p>
