Twelve students, four zones, one winner and thunderous applauses, best describes the JCI Antigua 2019 Mathlete Competition on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Multipurpose Center.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

\n

This year marks the 3rd instalment in the annual math-genius competition between students enrolled in Primary Schools across Antigua and Barbuda. The Old Primary School, Sunnyside Tutorial Primary School, Island Academy, and the St. Nicholas Primary School each put forward three astute students whose love for Mathematics were put to the test in a semi-final and final round competition.<\/p>\n

At the end of two fun, yet vigorous rounds of Mathematical questions and problem-solving, St. Nicholas Primary School and the Island Academy advanced to the finals. In a closely contested competition, Island Academy became victorious capturing the coveted title and securing EC $1000.00 for their school for the development of their math program. St. Nicholas Primary was awarded the first runner\u2019s up and received EC $500.00 for Math development along with the Old Road Primary School and Sunnyside Tutorial who also received the cash prize.<\/p>\n

Each student displayed a level of confidence and sportsmanship throughout the competition as they represented their various school zones.\u00a0\u00a0The students were all awarded a knapsack containing books, flash drives and a gift certificate from Happy Kids Clothing store.<\/p>

Commenting on the success of the Annual Mathlete Competition, JCI Antigua President Tammie Gage stated that \u201cThe mission of the Mathlete Competition was to provide a fun and educational competition for everyone that is involved.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cThe competition falls under our YEP-Youth Empowerment Program which stages innovative ways to engage and empower young people across the island, \u201cPresident Gage continued.<\/p>\n

Happy Kids Clothing Store was the main sponsor for this year\u2019s competition while the Ministry of Education provided key support during the zonal matches leading up to the Mathlete competition.<\/p>
