Barbados may not be as eager to sell its LIAT shares as Antigua and Barbuda is to purchase those shares.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Mia Mottley is indicating that her Cabinet is yet to make a decision on the matter.<\/p>

Her comment follows persistent claims that Bridgetown has agreed to sell all but ten per cent of its 49 per cent shares in LIAT.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne said this past weekend that he has reason to believe that Barbados will divest most of its shares.<\/p>\n

His Barbados counterpart Mia Mottley would only confirm that the matter is under consideration.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cI give you the assurance and the people of Barbados that when the Cabinet has reviewed and is in a position to be able to do so, that I will speak in the place to which we have become accustomed to speaking, which is the Parliament of Barbados. And I will speak to the people of Barbados, but I am not in the habit of sharing correspondence that I have written to anyone, far less colleague heads, in the press before they have seen it and I don\u2019t think there is anything which would cause me to alter those basic precepts of behaviour that I consider dear. Barbados is committed to LIAT and regional air travel, we may not be committed to LIAT (1974) Ltd and that\u2019s the fundamental difference and there is more than one way to do that which we have to do\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Browne has explained that acquiring some of Barbados\u2019 LIAT shares will protect Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s interests, and ensure that LIAT is not made into a smaller airline because that would hurt the country.<\/p>

He says obtaining the additional shares is a practical solution to an emerging problem.<\/p>
