Antigua and Barbuda has named its representative who will be attached to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) new embassy in Morocco.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Senior Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kurt Williams, 31, is leaving the country next week to take up the posting in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, where he will serve as First Secretary in the embassy for an initial assignment of two years. The embassy is the first diplomatic presence of the OECS grouping on the African continent.<\/p>\n

Williams was treated to warm send-off when the Prime Minister, Gaston Browne and Foreign Minister, E.P Chet Greene joined with the staff of the ministry for a special luncheon in his honour on Thursday.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Prime Minister Browne thanked Williams for accepting the offer to serve in the embassy noting that it was his government\u2019s intention to provide opportunities for young, talented members of the ministry of foreign affairs to serve in the various overseas missions and embassies. He said he will seek out opportunities to have more Antiguans and Barbudans serve in these foreign locales.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He described Williams as a \u2018trailblazer\u2019 as he urged the staff at the ministry to take a page out of his book and to continue to further develop themselves so that they too may benefit from the opportunities that may arise in the future.<\/p>\n

Foreign Minister Greene echoed the sentiments of the prime minister when he called on the staff of the ministry to see Williams\u2019 achievements as motivation for them to arm themselves with the necessary skills and training so that they too may be rewarded with such appointments.<\/p>

He noted that the dynamic relations between states in today\u2019s world mean that the work of diplomats is now quintessential.<\/p>\n

Williams thanked both the prime minister and the foreign minister for their words of encouragement and he said while his duties will be for seeking benefits for the OECS as a whole, he will always have Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s best interests in mind at all times.<\/p>

The OECS embassy will monitor and report on political, economic and other developments in Morocco and the wider African theatre.<\/p>

Williams joined the foreign affairs ministry six years ago and he is a Chevening Scholarship recipient.<\/p>\n
