The parliamentary opposition, the United Progressive Party (UPP) has labeled the decision by U.S President Donald Trump, to roll back some Obama-era policies on Cuba, as an infringement on Cuba\u2019s right to sovereignty.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In a statement today, the UPP which ran the affairs of the country between 2004 and 2014, said Trump\u2019s policy is \u201cincompatible with both the letter and spirit of non-intervention and constitute an infringement of Cuba\u2019s right to sovereignty in general and its right to choose its political, social, economic and cultural system in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said last week, he is rolling back the Obama administration’s “completely one-sided deal with Cuba”.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Speaking in Miami, Florida, he said his new policy would tighten rules affecting travel and on sending funds to the Caribbean island nation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

But he is not reversing key diplomatic and commercial ties, and will not close the US embassy in Havana.<\/p>\n

Commercial flights from the US will continue, as will allowing Americans to return home with Cuban goods.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

However, the UPP thinks that \u201cany attempt and action taken either to reverse, water down or slow the pace of normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States by the current president of the United States, must be condemned for it’s retrogressive, counterproductive and open hostility towards Cuba.\u201d<\/p>\n
