The Animal Welfare Group Dogs and Cats of Antigua says it is \u201csurprised\u201d after former Member of Parliament Dr. Jacqui Quinn was critical of it.<\/p>

On Sunday, Dr. Quinn wrote letters to a number of publications exposing the \u201chypocrisy\u201d in some animal welfare groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cFar from exposing hypocrisy, this letter exposes animal organizations that are stretched to the limit and the lack of available resources,\u201d the group said in response.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Joy Farrell a member said \u201cI cannot speak for other animal organizations only ours. We are a small group of volunteers, each of us is maxed out with animals we are fostering and vetting. We currently have at least 15 puppies and 10 dogs on our radar; our numbers are down as we just recently managed to ship 10 puppies and seven dogs to homes abroad.<\/p>

\u201cEvery week each one of us gets calls like this asking for help and we do help as many as we can, obviously we can’t help them all. Our resources both financially and physically are constantly stretched to the limit trying to help an endless stream of helpless animals, but nevertheless even with very limited resources we do a good job of fostering and rehoming literally hundreds of dogs and cats,\u201d she said,<\/p>\n

The group has also given its version of events.<\/p>

\u201cLast week, I was contacted by a lady who asked me to come to her house to pick up a kitten from her yard which seemed to be in distress. I told her that we didn’t have a facility but operated from a Facebook page and if she sent me a picture of the kitten I would post it to see if we could get it a foster or permanent home.<\/p>\n

I suggested she get it to the vet asap and let me know the outcome. I also asked her to check with PAAWS and the Humane Society to see if they could help, she said she had but they couldn’t help and PAAWS had an outbreak of ringworm at their facility.<\/p>

I was surprised to read a few days later a letter from the same lady who was supposedly exposing the hypocrisy of animal organizations and the cold way she had been treated.\u201d<\/p>
