The 22nd<\/sup> Meeting of the Community for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) has just concluded in St. George\u2019s, Grenada which was held under the theme \u201cLeveraging the Community\u2019s Voice in an Era of Challenges and Disorder\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade Minister, Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, who led Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s delegation, made a strong case for harmony amongst CARICOM nations on the ongoing crisis in neighbouring Venezuela. This call was in direct response to an increased fear of military intervention in Venezuela after Opposition leader Juan Guaido penned a letter to the Admiral of the United States Southern Command on May 11, 2019. \u00a0In the letter, the Venezuelan opposition leader appealed for U.S support for his efforts to unseat Presi0dent Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n

Greene said he hopes for accelerated discussions on mechanisms to quell the ongoing situation in Venezuela and called for consensus amongst Member States in devising ways to bring an amicable solution of the crisis which would allow for the region to remain a Zone of Peace.<\/p>

The two-day meeting discussed a wide range of issues including BREXIT and its possible impact on the Caribbean, CARICOM-EU relations, advocacy efforts regarding blacklisting, protection of the region\u2019s services industry, climate change and financial mechanisms to fund its impact, the ongoing conflict in Venezuela and CARICOM\u2019s Multilateral and Hemispheric relations.<\/p>

The COFCOR determines relations between the Community and international organizations and third states and promotes the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations among member states.<\/p>\n

The Antigua and Barbuda delegation also included Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade, Anthony Liverpool and Mr., Senior Foreign Service Officer, Kurt Williams.<\/p>
