A two-day food handlers course has now certified a number of inmates and Prison Officers within Her Majesty\u2019s Prison with the credible Food Handlers Certificate. The food handler\u2019s certificate gives individuals and establishments the legal right to prepare, cook and serve food for consumption within the Food and Beverage sector.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Important factors such as the correct temperature, storage of food, cleaning of preparation area and the correct attire to be worn for handling food were among some of the training that inmates received.<\/p>\n

During an interview with the communications unit of the Ministry of Public safety, Superintendent<\/strong> Eugene Philip stated how pleased he was to see this plan of action take effect.<\/p>

Philip stated the importance of the food handlers\u2019 certificate and noted that this stands as validation that the Prison is adhering to the Food handlers\u2019 regulations within the state of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

He also stated that the inmates and officers within the correctional facility will continue to operate in the most hygienic and safe methods to ensure that inmates are served with food that is safe and unadulterated and of good quality. Eliminating the possibilities of gastrointestinal infections, salmonella and other related cases from occurring due to contamination of food made available for consumption.<\/p>\n

This will not only be beneficial for the penal institution but also for inmates in the long run, who may wish to enter the food and beverage industry once they would have completed their time at the institution.<\/p>

According to the Food Safety Act.2017 any person serving food for consumption to the public must posses a food handlers\u2019 certificate.<\/p>\n
