Tiffany Anthea Lauren Strann- Peters was sworn in as a Government Senator on Wednesday during a ceremony at Government House, with officials highlighting her appointment as another milestone for female representation in Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Parliament.<\/p>

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams said Peters\u2019 appointment carries national significance beyond her personal achievement, noting that the number of female senators has now risen to six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith your inclusion, the total number of female senators named to date now rises to six,\u201d Sir Rodney said during the ceremony.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He added that when combined with women serving in the Lower House, female parliamentary representation now stands at eight members within the country\u2019s 34-member Parliament \u2014 among the highest levels in the nation\u2019s history.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sir Rodney described the development as \u201cimportant and encouraging\u201d for democracy and said greater female participation strengthens governance and broadens perspectives in decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt also sends a powerful message to our young women and girls of Antigua and Barbuda that leadership, public service and national contribution are open to all who are prepared to serve with excellence and with integrity,\u201d he said.<\/p>

Peters took three updated constitutional oaths during the ceremony, including the Oath of Allegiance, Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, which officials said reflect Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s constitutional independence and commitment to accountability in public service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
