Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said there is \u201cno guarantee\u201d he will lead the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) into another general election campaign.<\/p>

Speaking to State Media, Browne said the party must begin strengthening its second-tier leadership and preparing the next generation of political leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister, who has led the ABLP to four consecutive election victories, said political leadership depends on public support and that succession planning must be approached realistically.<\/p>

\u201cThere\u2019s no guarantee that I will be your leader going to the fifth term,\u201d Browne said, adding that he takes a \u201cscientific\u201d approach to politics and public opinion.<\/p>

The remarks come days after the ABLP secured a commanding victory in the April 30 general election, winning 15 of the country\u2019s 17 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne said the party could not rely on a single individual and must develop capable leaders to maintain its strength in the future.<\/p>
