Speaking at the joint Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) and Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party Labour Day rally, Browne said the change is part of a broader effort to improve the standard of living for workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also moving from a minimum wage to a livable wage,\u201d Browne said.<\/p>

He indicated that the policy direction is tied to ongoing increases in salaries and wages, as the government seeks to ensure that workers can meet their basic needs and improve their quality of life.<\/p>

Browne said the move forms part of a wider labour agenda that includes better working conditions, expanded opportunities and increased access to education and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, he stressed that higher wages must be supported by stronger productivity across the workforce.<\/p>

\u201cYou must increase your productivity,\u201d Browne said, noting that sustained economic progress depends on workers matching gains with performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
