Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams has cautioned that \u201cthe expectations\u2026 are high\u201d following the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party\u2019s landslide election victory, as Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Attorney General Steadroy Cutie Benjamin were sworn into office on Friday.<\/p>

\u201cThe expectations, I must warn you, are high,\u201d Williams said during the ceremony at Government House, noting that both leaders now assume office backed by a \u201crenewed and powerful mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His remarks came just hours after polls closed in Thursday\u2019s general election, which delivered a decisive outcome.<\/p>

\u201cJust a little over 12 hours ago, the polls closed, and the people\u2026 spoke with a clarity and resolve,\u201d Williams said, describing the vote as a peaceful exercise of democracy that produced a mandate \u201cas historic as it is definitive.\u201d<\/p>

The Governor-General formally congratulated Browne and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) on securing 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats, calling it a \u201cresounding victory\u201d and a \u201cmonumental moment\u201d in the country\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy the will of the people, the Prime Minister-elect has achieved what no other political leader\u2026 has ever accomplished \u2014 securing a fourth consecutive term in office,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>

He described the achievement as an \u201cunprecedented feat\u201d and said it reflects the \u201cenduring confidence\u201d voters have placed in Browne\u2019s leadership and vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
