A graduate assistant from Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Department of Analytical Services has completed specialised training in ocean acidification in Jamaica, aimed at strengthening regional scientific capacity.<\/p>

Ms Alexandra Hughes took part in a Basic Training Course on Ocean Acidification hosted by the University of the West Indies and the International Atomic Energy Agency\u2019s Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre, with sponsorship from the International Atomic Energy Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the programme, Ms Hughes joined a panel discussion where she highlighted the work of the Department of Analytical Services and explored how ocean acidification research could be integrated into its national work programme.<\/p>

The training brought together Caribbean scientists and provided practical skills in monitoring and researching ocean acidification, a growing environmental concern.<\/p>

Ocean acidification, driven by increased carbon dioxide absorption by the sea, poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems, fisheries and coastal livelihoods across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials say the participation of Antiguan and Barbudan scientists in such initiatives is key to improving national and regional responses to the issue.<\/p>
