Freeland Says Long-Standing Water Shortages in St. George Could Be Resolved Within a Year<\/p>

Communities in St. George that have endured decades without a reliable water supply could see long-awaited improvements within the next year, according to ABLP candidate Michael Freeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during a \u201cKnow Your Candidates\u201d interview ahead of the April 30 general election, Freeland identified water access as one of the most persistent and frustrating issues facing residents, particularly in parts of New George\u2019s, Carlisle\u2019s and Potter\u2019s.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s issues within certain parts of Carlisle, certain parts of New George\u2019s and certain parts of Potter\u2019s where there\u2019s no water,\u201d he said, adding that the problem has existed for generations. \u201cResidents who have been complaining for the last 25 and 30 years will get water.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Freeland said the situation stems largely from outdated infrastructure, noting that older systems have struggled to keep up with demand. However, he pointed to ongoing national upgrades as a turning point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is really based on the fact that we had an old system, and now that we\u2019re implementing a new system where the distribution of water can be much more efficient,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He indicated that government officials have already committed to addressing the issue through the installation of new pipelines and improved distribution networks. \u201cI\u2019ve been assured by the minister\u2026 and the water manager\u2026 that have no fear, we have the equipment, we\u2019re going to go and we\u2019re going to install these water pipes,\u201d Freeland said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planned upgrades are expected to be supported by increased national water production, which he said will improve the overall supply available to communities that have long been underserved.<\/p>

\u201cYou\u2019ve heard the Prime Minister speak about it, how much gallons of water \u2014 millions of gallons of water \u2014 we\u2019ve increased on a daily production level. That just helps the process,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Freeland acknowledged the frustration among residents but sought to reassure them that improvements are imminent. \u201cI know the frustration is there, but I\u2019m working for you,\u201d he said. \u201cWithin short order, we\u2019ll have these problems addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that while the fixes will not happen overnight, the timeline for visible change is relatively near. \u201cWithin the next year or so, we should see improvements in these areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water access remains a central issue for voters in St. George, particularly in communities where development has outpaced infrastructure. Freeland\u2019s comments place the issue alongside roads, drainage and housing as key concerns shaping the constituency ahead of the general election.<\/p>\n
