Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for St. Philip\u2019s South Kiz Johnson says roadworks, street lighting and water access will be her top priorities in the first 100 days if elected on April 30.<\/p>

Speaking during a Know Your Candidates<\/em> interview, Johnson pointed to ongoing infrastructure work in the constituency, arguing that delivery has already begun ahead of the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, for example, we have three roads within the community, three critical areas\u2026 that road is currently being paved right now, and the residents are very happy, long and well overdue,\u201d she said, referencing works in Lyons Estate, Christian Hill and sections of the St. Philip\u2019s housing area.<\/p>

She linked the projects to a broader national push, noting that the government has secured funding to continue road improvements.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPersons would have heard that the government has secured\u2026 a hundred million dollars\u2026 specifically for the continuation of roadworks,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Street lighting is also being expanded, with Johnson saying upgrades began just weeks ago in response to community concerns.<\/p>

\u201cAs recently as about two weeks ago, lighting was an area that needed work\u2026 we\u2019ve been able to embark on a street lighting project,\u201d she said, adding that solar installations are expected to follow in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents have already begun seeing the impact, she noted, with one joking that their property now feels \u201clike a football field\u201d because of the improved brightness.<\/p>

Water supply remains a more complex challenge, particularly for farmers, but Johnson said discussions are underway to provide relief.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWater is a challenge\u2026 we\u2019re putting in some interim solutions to make sure that there is water, especially accessible to the farming community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While she declined to give details pending consultations, Johnson said she has been working with farmers and the Antigua Public Utilities Authority to improve access and frequency of supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are discussing some interim solutions at this point in time to bring some relief,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson said these areas \u2014 infrastructure, water access and basic services \u2014 will define her early performance if elected, alongside her broader education agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe biggest\u2026 infrastructure\u2026 the very same water issue, that needs to be addressed\u2026 the very same roads,\u201d she said when asked about her first 100-day priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
