The government is preparing to launch a series of new housing developments in St Johnson\u2019s Village, Cedar Valley and Paynters, as part of an expanded effort to increase access to affordable homes across Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

Works and Housing Minister Maria Browne announced the plans during the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) manifesto launch at the American University of Antigua Conference Centre, outlining a pipeline of community-focused projects to be rolled out later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA significant boost to community development will come with a new housing project scheduled for launch later this year in St Johnson\u2019s Village,\u201d Browne said, adding that the initiative will be undertaken by the Central Housing and Planning Authority.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

She said additional developments are also planned for Cedar Valley and Paynters, where new housing projects are expected to be introduced before the end of the year.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn addition to this, the National Housing Authority is expected to present new housing developments in the Cedar Valley and Paynters communities later this year,\u201d Browne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projects form part of a broader push by the government to expand housing access and address demand across multiple communities, including both urban and rural areas.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Browne said the developments are intended to go beyond basic housing construction, with an emphasis on building fully serviced communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re building communities complete with proper roads, drainage, sidewalks and green spaces,\u201d she said. \u201cCommunities designed for safety, accessibility and inclusion.\u201d<\/p>

The minister said the government\u2019s approach is aimed at improving living standards while supporting long-term economic stability for families.<\/p>

\u201cHousing is not a privilege, it is a right. It is a foundation of dignity, a platform for opportunity and a pathway to generational wealth,\u201d Browne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the housing programme is being expanded alongside other initiatives, including support for vulnerable households and efforts to increase access to land ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are strengthening support for those in need, expanding repair grants\u2026 and upgrading homes for our vulnerable families,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne said the planned projects reflect a continued commitment to addressing housing needs at the community level while ensuring development is inclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, no one must feel left behind,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The housing developments are part of the ABLP\u2019s \u201cRenaissance\u201d manifesto, which focuses on infrastructure, housing and economic growth ahead of the April 30 general election.<\/p>\n
