Lovell Says All Saints West Has Potential to Become \u2018Model Constituency\u2019 with Targeted Development<\/p>

United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for All Saints West, Harold Lovell, says the constituency is well positioned for transformation, outlining a vision centred on infrastructure, youth development, and community planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a town hall in Buckleys, Lovell described All Saints West as one of the most significant constituencies in the country, both in size and electoral influence.<\/p>

\u201cAll Saints West\u2026 consists of almost 10% of all the voters in Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d he said, adding that the constituency accounts for \u201cabout 20 percent\u201d of the country\u2019s landmass.<\/p>

He noted that its geographic position \u2014 touching nearly every parish while being entirely landlocked \u2014 gives it unique development potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a large constituency with tremendous potential\u2026 we have the potential to become the model constituency of Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d Lovell told supporters.<\/p>

Lovell argued that unlocking that potential would require a coordinated approach, bringing together key areas such as infrastructure, health, community development, and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe issues of infrastructure, of health, community development, youth, all of these must be brought into one package so that we can create a new future,\u201d he said, adding that the focus must be \u201cmainly for the young people who live in All Saints West.\u201d<\/p>

A major portion of his remarks focused on the state of roads in the constituency, which he described as inadequate despite increased public revenue.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no reason why All Saints West should be in the condition that it is in, especially as far as the road infrastructure is concerned,\u201d Lovell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He questioned the impact of a recent 40 percent increase in vehicle licensing fees, asking residents to consider \u201cwhat has come of all the money that has been collected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lovell also raised concerns about the government\u2019s borrowing for roadworks, saying there is a lack of transparency around how funds will be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have a ridiculous situation\u2026 [the government is] borrowing $100 million for roadworks, and we haven\u2019t seen a plan up to now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called for clear priorities and planning, likening the situation to seeking a bank loan without presenting a proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first thing they\u2019re going to ask you for is a plan. What is your plan?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lovell maintained that while residents have invested in improving their homes and communities, public infrastructure has not kept pace, and pledged a more structured and accountable approach if elected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
