The government has expanded its duty waiver programme to allow homeowners and builders to access up to $100,000 in tax-free building materials, as part of efforts to reduce construction costs and improve housing conditions.<\/p>

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the measure broadens the scope of the Construct Antigua and Barbuda Initiative (CABI), which previously focused primarily on new home construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnder this expanded measure, the government will offer a waiver on all duties and taxes on building materials\u2026 up to a total value of $100,000,\u201d Merchant said during Thursday\u2019s post-Cabinet briefing.<\/p>

He said the programme will now also cover home renovations, allowing property owners to benefit from duty-free access to materials such as cement and blocks.<\/p>

\u201cThis extension of the duty waiver programme will further reduce the cost of building and renovation materials for homeowners and builders,\u201d Merchant said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials say the policy is aimed at easing financial pressure on households while accelerating repairs and upgrades to the country\u2019s housing stock.<\/p>
