The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party\u2019s upcoming convention is intended to place the organisation in a \u201cstate of readiness\u201d for general elections, with final decisions on candidates and party leadership positions to be settled at the April 12 meeting.<\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the convention will focus on putting all elements of the party\u2019s machinery in place, including the ratification of candidates and confirmation of outstanding officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are now seeking to place the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party in a state of readiness,\u201d Browne said, explaining that while the party already has its candidates identified, the convention will formalise those selections.<\/p>

He noted that \u201cwe still have officers of the party who are not in place,\u201d adding that the gathering will ensure both the leadership structure and candidate slate are fully aligned ahead of the next election.<\/p>

Browne said the executive has already recommended the final two candidates to complete the slate, naming Kendra Beazer for Barbuda and Philmore Benjamin for St Mary\u2019s North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister indicated that the objective of the convention is not only administrative, but strategic, positioning the ruling party to move quickly once elections are called.<\/p>
