GIS: An Official Funeral and Thanksgiving Service was held for Harold Christoper Carter MH at the St Andrew’s Anglican Church on Thursday 19th March 2026.<\/p>

The last surviving 39er Mr Carter passed away on 26th December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 39ers were the men and women who founded the Antigua Trades and Labour Union, the first workers union in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

Harold Christoper Carter MH was part of a group of thirteen men who were arrested in 1951 for leading a protest against the brutal and oppressive plantocracy system.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne remarked to Mr Carter in January 2020, \u201cyou represent the struggle and sacrifices made for the progress and development that Antigua & Barbuda enjoys today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notable officials in attendance for Harold Christoper Carter\u2019s Official Funeral included Governor General of Antigua & Barbuda His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne, President of the Senate Hon. Alincia Williams-Grant, Sir Molwyn Joseph, Hon. E.P Chet Green, Hon. Maria Browne, Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers, newly elected Member of Parliament Randy Baltimore, and Senator Hon. Johnathan Joseph.<\/p>
