passing<\/strong>, adding that the family continues to celebrate his music and legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quoting one of his famous lines, the speaker recalled the energy of Swallow\u2019s music: \u201cAntigua\u2019s jumping down in the subway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-junior-jagger-martin\">Junior \u201cJagger\u201d Martin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The third honoree, <strong>Junior \u201cJagger\u201d Martin<\/strong>, was recognized as one of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s most respected musicians and cultural mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in <strong>1952<\/strong>, Martin\u2019s musical journey began at the age of nine when he crafted his first <strong>one-string guitar<\/strong>, a moment organizers described as the beginning of a remarkable career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the decades he became a <strong>musician, band leader, arranger, recording engineer and educator<\/strong>, joining <strong>Hell\u2019s Gate Steel Orchestra in 1967<\/strong> and later forming a longstanding musical partnership with calypso legend <strong>Sir Maclean Emanuel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an arranger and band leader, Martin contributed to classic road march victories including <strong>\u201cJamming\u201d in 1978<\/strong> and <strong>\u201cKangaroo Jam\u201d in 1979<\/strong>, while also dedicating much of his life to teaching music to young Antiguans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accepting the award, Martin reflected on the challenges he faced early in his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo do this for a lifetime is not easy,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t have the privilege of going to a music school\u2026 I had to teach myself how to write music, arrange music and play music by myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said his lifelong goal was always to promote his country through music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had one thing in mind \u2014 Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d Martin said. \u201cI always wanted Antigua and Barbuda to be number one, first, all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martin also used the moment to encourage young musicians to remain humble and support one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe main thing is to be humble,\u201d he advised. \u201cYou never know everything, so you always have to listen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged experienced musicians to pass on their knowledge to the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to teach others.
