Antigua Cruise Port is preparing to overhaul its ground transportation operations as part of the second phase of the $60 million upland development, with plans to introduce a structured taxi dispatch system and redesigned parking facilities.<\/p>

Gaspar George, General Manager of Antigua Cruise Port and Global Ports Holding\u2019s Regional Director for Operations and Product Development, said the transformation of ground transportation will be one of the most significant components of the next phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of the most exciting parts of that, which will complete in this holistic upland by July of this year, will be this ground transportation aspect of it, which is going to involve how we revolutionize the ground transportation experience, which involves dispatch of taxis, parking, and tours,\u201d George said during an interview on Government in Motion<\/em> .<\/p>

The redesign aims to create a more organized and efficient system for taxi operators and tour providers, particularly on high-volume cruise days when passenger throughput is at its peak.<\/p>

George explained that the new system is intended to complement operations at Heritage Quay and other waterfront commercial areas rather than compete with them. The broader vision, he said, is to create a seamless waterfront ecosystem connecting Heritage Quay, Redcliffe Quay and the new upland development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur intention is to bring all together that it can create a beautiful waterfront and a waterfront experience that Antigua and Barbuda could be proud of,\u201d he said .<\/p>

The expansion is also expected to extend activity toward Nevis Street and adjacent downtown areas, spreading commercial traffic beyond traditional port gates and encouraging more economic activity in St. John\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With cruise passenger arrivals projected to approach one million this year, according to port officials, the structured dispatch and transportation upgrades are viewed as critical to managing increased traffic while improving the visitor experience .<\/p>
