Water Crisis in All Saints West Reflects National Failure, Lovell Says<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

United Progressive Party All Saints West caretaker Harold Lovell<\/strong> says chronic water shortages in his constituency mirror a wider national failure caused by weak planning, sidelined expertise and a fragmented approach to utilities management.<\/p>

Speaking on Observer Radio, Lovell said residents in All Saints West receive water infrequently, often only for a few hours at a time, and complained of poor quality when supply does return. He said the situation has persisted despite repeated public assurances and significant spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lovell blamed what he described as a lack of long-term, integrated planning, arguing that successive fixes have failed to address core issues such as storage and distribution. He said policy responses have relied too heavily on expanding desalination capacity while neglecting infrastructure needed to deliver water consistently to communities.<\/p>

He said experienced local engineers and water specialists were not adequately consulted, adding that the country once had professionals who \u201cknow where every pipe is buried\u201d and understand how the system works. Lovell criticized what he called a \u201cpiecemeal approach,\u201d arguing that building additional plants without resolving storage and distribution constraints has produced limited results. He argued that a comprehensive plan\u2014developed with local expertise and, if necessary, supported by outside specialists\u2014was needed to fix the problem sustainably, rather than repeating short-term measures that fail to deliver reliable supply.<\/p>
