Antigua and Barbuda will be represented at the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting in Nadi, Fiji, from 9 to 12 February 2026.<\/p>

Law ministers and attorneys general from across the Commonwealth will gather to discuss growing concerns over the weakening of the rule of law and its effects on democracy, economic opportunity and public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting will examine how strong legal systems support democratic rights, fair livelihoods and secure communities, with discussions expected to lead to practical commitments to improve access to justice and strengthen legal institutions.<\/p>

Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey said the rule of law was under increasing pressure globally, warning that ordinary citizens are most affected when it is weakened or unevenly applied. She said the Commonwealth\u2019s focus is on cooperation and practical action, particularly to protect vulnerable communities facing challenges such as climate change.<\/p>

The meeting will be chaired by Fiji\u2019s Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney General, Siromi Turaga, under the theme \u201cAnchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Side events will also include youth leaders, people with lived experience of the justice system and disability rights advocates.<\/p>
