Barbuda Airport to Extend Operating Hours with New Apron Lighting<\/strong><\/p>

Operating hours at Barbuda International Airport<\/strong> are set to be extended into the evening with the installation of new apron lighting, a move Cabinet says will improve access to the sister island and support ongoing development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office Maurice Merchant said the decision emerged from recent Cabinet discussions involving the PLH project and airport authorities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was announced that the apron lights expansion will commence very soon,\u201d Merchant said during the weekly Cabinet briefing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Merchant said the new lighting will allow night-time operations at the airport, which currently closes at sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe lights at Barbuda Airport are sunset lights, meaning once the sun sets, then operations cease at the airport,\u201d he said. \u201cApron lights will be installed and this will expand the time of operations at the Barbuda International Airport up until 9:30 p.m.\u201d<\/p>

The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, which has responsibility for the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is being done in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority,\u201d Merchant said.<\/p>

Cabinet was told that extending operating hours is expected to improve air access to Barbuda, with potential benefits for inter-island travel, tourism and emergency response, particularly during peak periods and after-hours operations.<\/p>

Merchant said the initiative forms part of broader development activity linked to PLH\u2019s investments on Barbuda, including infrastructure upgrades associated with the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further details on timelines for completion of the lighting works are expected to be provided as the project moves forward.<\/p>\n
