The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved funding to support the launch of short courses at the School of Agriculture, clearing the way for training to begin as early as February as part of the government\u2019s food security and youth development efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office Maurice Merchant said Cabinet approved $50,000<\/strong> to prepare two classrooms at the institution after officials flagged security challenges that had delayed the start of programmes.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCabinet immediately approved fifty thousand dollars to prepare two classrooms that are essential to the commencement of short courses commencing as early as next week, that\u2019s February,\u201d Merchant said during the weekly Cabinet briefing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cabinet was told that while the curriculum for the School of Agriculture is completed, security concerns had to be addressed before classes could begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe curriculum for the School of Agriculture is ready and completed,\u201d Merchant said, adding that \u201cimmediate challenges, including security, is an issue.\u201d<\/p>

Merchant said new security equipment has been ordered, and the institution has also received donations to support its launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have received donations of equipment from the American University of Antigua and the Rotary Club,\u201d he said.<\/p>

The School of Agriculture is viewed by Cabinet as a critical component of the country\u2019s broader food security strategy and youth empowerment agenda.<\/p>

\u201cCabinet noted that the institution is critical to national food security, skills development, and youth empowerment,\u201d Merchant said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of short courses is expected to provide practical training opportunities for young people and aspiring farmers, as the government accelerates efforts to expand local food production and reduce reliance on imports.<\/p>\n
