Senator Lamin Newton Says He Is Ready as Election Speculation Grows<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lamin Newton<\/strong>, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) caretaker for All Saints East and St. Luke<\/strong>, says he is prepared for an election at any time, urging voters not to delay registration and pledging expanded constituency work if elected.<\/p>

Speaking on The Morning Point<\/em> programme, Newton said he has adopted a mindset of constant readiness amid talk that general elections could be called soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI always say I need to get ready,\u201d Newton said, recalling advice from a colleague. \u201cShe reminded me one time, \u2018Stop saying that. Stay ready so you don\u2019t have to get ready.\u2019 And that is exactly what I\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Newton said he has structured his work around that principle and believes he can respond immediately if an election is announced.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo if the Prime Minister decides that he\u2019s going to make that big announcement today, I can guarantee you that I am ready,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The senator used the interview to strongly encourage voter registration, warning that many people risk being left out of the electoral process by waiting for an election date to be announced.<\/p>

\u201cI find that that is lacking in Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d Newton said, noting that many residents he meets are not registered, transferred, or renewed. \u201cOne individual said to me, \u2018Once the Prime Minister announces it, then I\u2019ll go.\u2019 I said, \u2018But no.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cautioned that waiting could prove costly.<\/p>

\u201cWhat if the Prime Minister announces it quickly and it\u2019s just a matter of a 21-day period, and then you find yourself unable to participate in the process?\u201d Newton said. \u201cYou don\u2019t want that.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Newton urged voters to act immediately, saying, \u201cGo out now, get yourself registered\u2026 Don\u2019t wait until the Prime Minister announces the date to then go and do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning to his work in the constituency, Newton said residents are already seeing improvements after years of limited activity. He cited road rehabilitation, upgrades to clinics and sporting facilities, and community clean-up efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are not here to make excuses about why we can\u2019t get it done,\u201d he said. \u201cI am here for you. I will continue to work for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newton said that if elected as the next member of parliament for All Saints East and St. Luke, those efforts would increase significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhatever I\u2019m doing now will be amplified,\u201d he said. \u201cI can guarantee them that. So the little that you see happening now, once I\u2019m elected\u2026 everything that is doing now will be amplified and magnified.\u201d<\/p>\n
