Two new abattoirs are expected to become operational within the next 12 to 18 months as part of the government\u2019s effort to strengthen food supply infrastructure and support increased agricultural production, Prime Minister Gaston Browne<\/strong> said Saturday.<\/p>

Speaking on Pointe FM\u2019s Browne and Browne<\/em> programme, Browne said equipment for the facilities has already been shipped and funding approved to begin civil works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe equipment for the abattoirs has been shipped,\u201d Browne said, adding that once construction is completed, the facilities will significantly improve the country\u2019s capacity to process locally produced livestock.<\/p>

He said the investment is intended to support farmers as agricultural output expands, ensuring that increased production can be absorbed safely and efficiently.<\/p>

Browne said civil works funding has been approved and construction is expected to move ahead shortly, with the timeline for completion estimated at between one year and 18 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithin the next 12 to 18 months, we should see a significant increase in agricultural production,\u201d he said, linking the abattoirs to broader efforts to reduce food insecurity.<\/p>
