Prime Minister Gaston Browne has welcomed the completion of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s new cruise terminal, calling it a key step in positioning the country as a leading cruise destination in the Caribbean.<\/p>

Speaking at the opening, Mr Browne said the terminal marked a major expansion of the nation\u2019s cruise tourism infrastructure and would help create a \u201cmarquee\u201d cruise product for the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the development would generate new opportunities for local businesses, creatives and workers, with Antiguans and Barbudans already employed at the facility and more jobs expected as shops and amenities open.<\/p>

The project is a partnership between Global Ports Holding and the government, with the company providing capital and expertise, and the state offering concessions and the development site. Mr Browne described the arrangement as a model for the wider Caribbean.<\/p>

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister outlined plans to develop Barbuda as a luxury cruise destination aimed at high-end travellers rather than mass tourism. He said Global Ports Holding had been invited to establish a facility to cater to small yachts and boutique cruise vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government is also planning to develop Barnacle Point as a premium cruise site, offering water sports and fine dining, alongside existing facilities at English Harbour and St John\u2019s Harbour. Further development is also being considered at Fort James.<\/p>

Mr Browne said the projects could be completed within three to five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also urged citizens to help maintain a clean and attractive environment, warning that littering and derelict buildings could undermine the country\u2019s tourism ambitions.<\/p>

The Prime Minister said investment in tourism must go hand in hand with improved education, healthcare and service standards, ensuring that economic growth benefits both visitors and residents.<\/p>
