Former Grenadian Prime Minister Keith Mitchell<\/strong> has announced his retirement from active politics, ending a parliamentary career that spanned more than four decades.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mitchell, 79, made the announcement Thursday night in St. George North West, the constituency he has represented since 1984. He named acting Clerk of Parliament Dr. Adrian Joseph as his successor and caretaker. Addressing supporters, Mitchell reflected on serving the constituency for more than 40 years and as prime minister for a combined 23 years. \u201cWhat more can any human being ask?\u201d he said, adding that he was honoring a promise to step aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The founding leader of the New National Party<\/strong>, Mitchell is Grenada\u2019s longest-serving prime minister. He led the party to clean sweeps of all 15 seats in the 2013 and 2018 general elections, but the NNP lost the June 2022 polls to the National Democratic Congress, 9\u20136.<\/p>

NNP officials described Joseph, a diplomat and senior public administrator, as a choice that signals continuity and renewal.
