The late Sir Gerald Watt<\/strong> was remembered not only as a towering legal figure but as a devoted father, husband and man of deep passion, as his son Gavin Watt<\/strong> delivered a personal eulogy at the official funeral service on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re here to celebrate the life of my father,\u201d Watt told mourners, tracing his journey from \u201cGerald Anderson Watt\u201d to one of the country\u2019s most respected legal minds.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Gavin Watt said passion defined his father\u2019s life, both at home and in his professional work. \u201cI would say you have to have passion, and I think that\u2019s one of the things about my father that everyone here sees,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He spoke of witnessing firsthand his father\u2019s love for family and his dedication to building a lasting legacy in Antigua and Barbuda. \u201cAs a son, I got to see the love that he had for my mom, our family, our entire family,\u201d he said. \u201cI saw his passion for work and how to build a legacy in Antigua.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watt shared childhood memories of early Saturday mornings spent together before his father left for work. \u201cHe would say, \u2018Okay, I have some time here now, but I\u2019m soon going to have to go and work,\u2019\u201d he recalled. \u201cSo he would say to me, \u2018Okay, let\u2019s watch a little TV.\u2019\u201d<\/p>

Those moments often included western films and cricket, two lifelong passions of Sir Gerald. \u201cMy father was very much into westerns,\u201d Watt said. \u201cBut he was also very passionate about cricket. Even if they weren\u2019t winning, he would watch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eulogy also painted a picture of Sir Gerald\u2019s strong personality and sense of humor, even during family disagreements. Watt recalled that after arguments, his father would sometimes say, \u201cI don\u2019t need to argue with you \u2014 I get paid to argue,\u201d a line that always signaled the tension had passed.<\/p>

Watt described his father as outspoken but deeply affectionate. \u201cIf he was upset with you, he\u2019d let you know real quick,\u201d he said. \u201cBut he would hug you, embrace you, and always show you love.\u201d<\/p>

He also recalled time spent boating and fishing, lessons that revealed his father\u2019s strength and determination. In one story, Watt said Sir Gerald physically pulled a boat free after it ran aground, an act that left a lasting impression. \u201cThat was the strength of a man,\u201d he said. \u201cIt showed me his determination \u2014 that if needed, he would move mountains to get things done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe became my hero,\u201d Watt said, describing his father as a man who led \u201cby example and with passion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closing his remarks, Watt expressed gratitude for the time he shared with his father and the impact Sir Gerald had on family, friends and the wider society. \u201cI love you. I miss you. And I will carry you in my heart the rest of my days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
