planning and response mechanisms to effectively address tsunami threats.<\/p>

The partnership specifically involves NOAA\u2019S National Weather Service\u2019s International Tsunami<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information Center (ITIC) which assists Pacific and Caribbean nations with tsunami warning<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

systems, training, and safety information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, 12th January, representatives from NODS, alongside key stakeholders, participated<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

in a session aimed at providing essential training on the various products and services offered<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC). Attendees gained critical insights into Tsunami<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and explored tools designed to enhance preparedness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for potential tsunami events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight of this initiative is the ongoing Tsunami Ready Launch and Training Mission, with a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

specific focus on Barbuda, taking place from January 12 to 16, 2026. This mission brings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

together local, regional, and international experts to share knowledge and train personnel in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbuda, ensuring the community is well-equipped to respond swiftly and effectively to tsunami<\/p>\n\n\n\n

threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is part of the broader initiative titled \u201cCapacity Development to Build Tsunami-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resilient Communities through Tsunami Readiness in the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coordinated by NOAA\u2019s ITIC in partnership with UNESCO\u2019s Intergovernmental Oceanographic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commission (IOC), the project aims to empower local communities with the necessary<\/p>\n\n\n\n

knowledge and resources to enhance their resilience against tsunami threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a community budget of approximately USD 93,000.00, the project covers technical<\/p>\n\n\n\n

services, training and materials, signage among other costs. The University of ColoradoConsortium for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) oversees these funds, with payments directed to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

approved local suppliers and service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antigua and Barbuda will play a crucial role in identifying community needs, facilitating the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National and Local Tsunami Ready committees, and providing available data. The ITIC<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caribbean Office will oversee the coordination, technical expertise, and implementation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

necessary for success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tsunami Ready Antigua and Barbuda Project supports the initiative Early Warnings for All<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(EW4All) and aims to strengthen national disaster risk reduction systems. This partnership<\/p>\n\n\n\n

underscores Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s commitment to safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NODS reaffirms its dedication to enhancing disaster response capabilities and is proud to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

collaborate with NOAA and UNESCO to promote community safety and preparedness.<\/p>\n
