Cremation involves exposing the body to extreme heat, reducing it to bone fragments that are later processed into ashes. Families may keep the remains in an urn, turn them into memorial jewelry, or scatter them, Meyer explained. Embalming remains optional and is typically chosen when families plan a viewing or full funeral service.<\/p>
