Pollster and analyst Peter Wickham<\/strong> described suggestions of an exit as \u201cmisplaced\u201d and \u201ceconomically irrational,\u201d arguing that Trinidad and Tobago benefits significantly from regional trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The debate intensified after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar<\/strong> criticized CARICOM<\/strong> as an unreliable partner following U.S. visa sanctions imposed on Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong> and Dominica<\/strong>. Persad-Bissessar accused the bloc of distancing itself from Washington while aligning with Venezuela\u2019s government.<\/p>
